At Country Fresh, mushroom growing is more than a business – it’s a way of life. For each of the family farms that contribute to our product line, mushroom cultivation is at the heart of a long agricultural history. Multiple generations have planted, harvested and honed their skills to become leaders in the mushroom farming industry.
Our growers were some of the first to embrace state-of-the-art Dutch technology, and ten years ago erected a farm that utilized aluminum growing shelves. Through the benefit of our cooperative business model, other Country Fresh growers soon followed suit. Yet only recently has this innovative technology been adapted by others in the industry.
Our mushroom growers were also among the first to implement Mushroom Good Agricultural Practices (MGAPs) – the commodity-specific audit developed by the USDA and national in scope – and all six of our mushroom farms have continually passed MGAP audits. We’ve even set up in-house training to ensure that we continue to meet the industry’s exacting standards.
